Data Synchronization: A Complete Theoretical Solution for Filesystems

چکیده

Data reconciliation in general, and filesystem synchronization particular, lacks rigorous theoretical foundation. This paper presents, for the first time, a complete analysis of two replicas filesystem. Synchronization has main stages: identifying conflicts, resolving them. All existing (both practical) synchronizers are operation-based: they define, using some rationale or heuristics, how conflicts to be resolved without considering effect resolution on subsequent conflicts. Instead, our approach is declaration-based: we define what constitutes all each possible scenario prove existence sequences operations/commands which convert into common synchronized state. These consist operations rolling back local changes, followed by performed other replica. The set rolled-back provides user with clear intuitive information proposed so she can easily decide whether accept them ask alternatives. states described specifying partial order describing need resolved, as well decision Using this classification, outcomes different conflict policies investigated easily.

A SyncML Middleware-Based Solution for Pervasive Relational Data Synchronization

In ubiquitous data applications, local data replicas are often essential for mobile users to get more reliable and faster access. Referring to the open source-code resource Sync4j for a data synchronization solution of lower price, we design and implement an application-independent SyncML-complied middleware, named GSMS, to synchronize data between heterogeneous Relational Database Management S...

Filesystems for Streaming Databases

Workloads for high-performance streaming databases often contain many writes of small data blocks (for example, of metadata) followed by large subrange queries. Most of today’s file systems and databases either cannot provide adequate performance for the write phase, the read phase, or both. The supercomputing technologies group at MIT CSAIL has been investigating cache-aware and cache-obliviou...

Benchmarking Filesystems

One of the most widely researched areas in operating systems is filesystem design, implementation, and performance. Almost all of the research involves reporting performance numbers gathered from a variety of different benchmarks. The problem with such results is that existing filesystem benchmarks are inadequate, suffering from problems ranging from not scaling with advancing technology to not...

Filesystems for Network-Attached Secure Disks

Network-attached storage enables network-striped data transfers directly between client and storage to provide clients with scalable bandwidth on large transfers. Network-attached storage also decouples policy and enforcement of access control, avoiding unnecessary reverification of protection checks, reducing file manager work and increasing scalability. It eliminates the expense of a server c...
